God is Good

“God is good”. Do you believe that? I have a hard time with it sometimes I will admit. It’s a topic that many will never say is true simply because they have never felt it. I can say it’s true because in the past I have felt Him. I have felt His arms around when I was hurting and crying out for acceptance and love. Then why is it so hard for me to feel at times now?

Maybe it’s because I am more grown up and more calloused with the world? Maybe I am too scared to trust anyone but myself? I don’t know but I do know that my trust relationship with God is one that always takes work on my side.

I know people say that if you trust someone that you will always trust them. I guess that I sort of true since I trust my husband 100% and my closest friends 100%, but why can’t I always trust God 100% if the time? Because I can really trust what I see. I trust my husband to come home and love me every night because he does and I can see him. I can see his face and hear his voice to know if there is something off about him, but with God I can’t see Him. I know He is there, but I so often forget to look for Him.

And when things go bad it’s even harder to trust Him. You want to believe that He is doing everything for my good, but I can see that at the moment. It might be years until I see the purpose behind the suffering I go through today. So I sit there and ask God why, when He isn’t ready to show to me what He is planning to do with me. I just have to sit and wait to maybe understand it someday.

But I just have to remember that God is always good even if it doesn’t feel like life is. He loves me even when I am crying my soul out or angry because life has thrown me another curve ball. He is good always.

I Am a Goat and a Sheep

I had a funny thought today. I saw on Facebook that people are sheep and just follow whatever someone says. Well, I was raised to have critical thinking skills so in that case I don’t usually go with something just because someone told me to. I think about the situation and come with a reaction based on my own opinion shaped by information I am given. In that case I am a goat. But the Bible says that I am a sheep, and I am. How can I be both? Let me explain how it is possible.

See, we people are sheep because we walk around not really knowing what is going on. Ok, for all you of who have never seen a sheep, the reason why people are called sheep is because sheep are stupid. They have no ability really of taking care of themselves. I had growing up a couple of sheep and the analogy finally made sense. Our sheep were so dumb that they would run away when we threw the hay over the fence and, if the goats didn’t eat it, the sheep would have probably starved because they didn’t have the common sense to come see what we fed them. They needed leadership to know what to do, and that is how Christians are supposed to be. We are read God’s Word and live by Him in order to know how to live our lives.

But there is a switch that happens when it comes to people who go against the grain in the world whether or not they are Christians and they are called goats. How to explain a goat? I would say smart, intelligent, troublesome, loud, and bold. They are awesome animals really. I like them personally more than sheep since they do have a mind in their head. But they are very hard to herd. If a goat wants to go one direction, guess what, it will only go in that direction no matter how much grain or hay you shake in their face. That is why in the Christian terms, unsaved people are called goats. They think they can do it on their own and more than like they will be eaten because they didn’t listen to the goat herder.

But where does that leave me? I am a Christian but I go against almost all of the culture around me both locally and on a wide spread scale. I don’t participate in local logic like the way city dwellers treat the world around them, and I don’t like the widespread issues like abortion. My Facebook wall shows that I am right winged and hate it when entitled people whine and complain when they don’t get their way, but the world around me says that I should hate white people, cry because my presidential candidate didn’t win, have so much debt to keep up with the Jones’ I should be drowning and should be ashamed to be an American. Most people just go with the flow and live their whole without having a single individual thought in their lives.

You have heard the analogy of the five monkeys right? five monkeys are put in a room with a banana on top of a ladder, but whenever a monkey goes up he is sprayed with water as are the rest of the monkeys. So whenever a monkey goes up, the rest start to attack him because they don’t want to be sprayed with water. Then slowly all the monkeys are replaced and each time a new monkey comes in, they rest attack them. When the experiment was at the end all five new monkeys wouldn’t climb the ladder but none of the monkeys really knew why. It was always done that way. That is how our culture has been formed in the last fifty years. We have strayed from the roots because someone like me decided to climb the ladder anyway and find out that the banana was worth it.

So what am I? I am a rebel and a follower. I am both!

I am a sheep because when it comes to life I need the direction of Jesus to show me how to live and love on people which then turns me into a goat because it is the opposite of what the culture around me says. How’s that for a mind bender? Never thought you could be two animals at once, huh? What would I be called then? A sheot? A geep? A goeep? I don’t know, but it is a very interesting animal. I can lead and follow, I can talk and listen, I can make decisions by thinking through but being open to other people’s ideas. I think being a sheot isn’t so bad. Are you with me? 🙂

2016, Why?

Today is a sad day for many geeks in the world with the loss of Carrie Fisher. She will always be that spunky Princess Leia to me as I grew up watching her in only that trilogy, but there is more sadness with this past year since it feels like there have been so many icons lost this year.

  • Florence Henderson
  • Alan Thicke
  • Gene Wilder
  • Muhammad Ali
  • Prince
  • David Bowie
  • John Glenn
  • First Lady Nancy Reagan
  • Arnold Palmer
  • Kenny Baker (R2D2)

And many others that would fill this blog post. It’s crazy the famous people we have lost in 2016. They seemed like they would live forever and now that they are gone, it’s just sad and I am awestruck but not in the way I want to be.

I grew up watching Brady Bunch and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I just can’t believe these people are not here anymore. I guess that we all have to pass away at some time but these people seemed to be special. There have been others that have passed on too like Robin Williams over the past couple of years. I still can’t watch Aladdin and Mrs. Doubtfire without feeling sad knowing that I am just watching a recording and he isn’t on this earth still. The same goes for the people we have lost this year.

But there is an added sadness for me being a Christian for these people because I don’t know if any of these people will be in heaven. Most I would say not which means that the life they had on this planet, whether it be good or bad, will be the best life they will have. So I guess, deep down, that is what makes me the saddest is that the fame and money will do nothing for them now, whereas, if they had had Christ in their life, the rewards that could have been there for them would have been ten fold what they had on this earth. In total, I hope and pray I am wrong I will be able to finally meet most of my icons growing up in heaven and I will be able to hear their story from their own mouths. That would be a dream come true in itself.

But we still need to pray for the families that are grieving. Know that there are millions of people grieving right alongside you.

God bless.

My Song For 2016

This song is my song for the year. It has helped me get up when I just wanted to lie down and give up, it has been a reminder that God is with me no matter how I might feel in that moment, and it has shown me that I can’t change anything. The only thing I can really do in this life is to look up and keep going forward. I think the song tells the rest of this perfectly and better than I could. Enjoy 🙂

A Stress Free Christmas

There is so much going on right when it comes to Christmas. People have already gone through the annual hunting day of Black Friday and now we are moving forward still looking for gifts for people. But let’s be honest for a moment. Wouldn’t Christmas be souch better without all that hustle worry and stress?

Now let’s get one thing straight, I love getting gifts and I love giving gifts but not at the expense of my sanity. I don’t know how many times I have been told that someone really wants to give a person a gift (or they already bought them a gift) and were stressing that they wouldn’t like it. Is that the point of the gift giving process? No. The point is to give a moment of joy to someone because you thought about them and went through the trouble of buying them something. Now if it’s not exactly their style or what they would want then that is honestly the recipient’s issue because they should be thrilled to have someone in their life care about them enough to do such a thing.

So this post is for both givers and receivers. If you are wanting to buy a gift and you’re stressing about it before you even pay for it, then don’t buy it. Only buy things for people you know are going to appreciate it. And for the receivers, even if it isn’t something that you would buy for yourself, be grateful that your friend loves you enough to get you something. Because Christmas is supposed to be fun and I think that the whole gift giving thing has taken so much away from the joy of Christmas. Don’t let that be the case in your house. Have Christmas be fun and full of joy.

Merry Christmas!

In Times Like These

So in America today, it is election day and this one has been a crazy one. And the worst part is that it is taring our country apart. They keep saying that we need to stand together, but there is one thing about any election and that is there is no way that is going to happen because in order to win you need to turn people against the other person which means there is no way for a country to stand as a whole.

It is kind of like how there will never be world peace. Everyone preaches it, but it will never happen because we live in a broken world. And we live in a broken nation just like the rest of the world. The only true way to have a group of people stand together with peace and harmony is when Jesus comes back. Only then will the true leader of the world sit on the throne and settle all the stupid arguments of which form of government is the right or not. I know which way I think it needs to be, but not everyone agrees with me. It just means that we all have our own opinions on how things are done. Personally I can’t wait for the day where it doesn’t matter what political party someone is.

Jesus come soon… That’s what I keep hearing, but I don’t think that people really understand what has to happen for Jesus to return. We have to go through WWIII and then the tribulation. Selfishly I want that part to take as long as possible, but, at the same time, I do want Jesus to come back. I guess we will see where America will play into God’s almighty plan after this election. We aren’t the best country in the world, but we will play a part. I just pray that it’s a good one.

Two Weeks Without Internet

So we have been in our new house for two weeks and we have a funny story. So after a couple days we had our internet provider appointment and he came out to find that the cable to the house was bad and it needed to be replaced. He said the request would take up to seven days to be completed and then someone would be out the following week to hook us up.

Well a week went by and we didn’t know if the work had been done. So we called the number we were given by the installer. He didn’t return our calls for a couple of days and then came out of find out the work had been done the next day after the installer put in the work order. So we had been sitting waiting just to be hooked up and didn’t know it. The guy came out the next day and hooked us up which was greatly appreciated.

Ok, so maybe to some people that isn’t a funny story but with how the past few months have been, it wasn’t a huge surprise. But I learned something being disconnected from the rest of the world – I didn’t really miss it. Of course being that this blog, my books and my Etsy Shop are online run makes not having internet tricky, but overall I didn’t miss it much. I didn’t have the distractions that internet provides at my fingertips.

My house was quieter, we played with our daughter more, and my husband and I got to have some nice nights just talking. I could see us starting some “Unplug Days” in the future to make sure we are staying in touch with what is important. Being in the middle of pointless arguments on Facebook and Twitter is not the place to be. Playing with your kids, hanging out with family and friends, and being a part of a community is what really matters.

Looking to the Future

So a few months ago, I wrote a post saying we might have mold in our rental. Well we did and in the process lost 99% of our possessions. I went from having a fully furnished and probably overly furnished home with everything that anyone could need to having a week’s worth of clothes and a few toys for my daughter. Then on top of it our car’s AC died so we went from one car to no car in a matter of minutes. I was completely devastated. But God really showed His hand through it all.

First, we were blessed with a table and chairs. I know that may not sound like much but to us it was  a big deal. Then God provided us a way to actually buy a house this time instead of having to rent again. After that, people started coming out of the wood work to donate items that we needed to us.

People were giving us simple stuff like bath towels to the big stuff like couches and furniture. Our new home was furnished before we even signed the papers. And God provided us a way through a gracious Uncle to buy a 2006 Toyota Matrix which is a huge upgrade from our 1997 Honda Accord. It was truly like a Hallmark movie where the poor family is left out in the rain and the mean management company ends up looking like idiots. It really did. We still haven’t gotten any compensation from them but God will work that out too. We are taking all necessary action to make sure what happened to us won’t happen to another family.

But now we are in our new place and we are so excited to see how God works things out in the future. Our house is the perfect little starter home which we and our daughter love. She is so excited to have some stability in her life. Grandma and Grandpa were awesome but there still is no place like home for a little girl.

If you are going through a tough season know that God does care about you. I know there were many things in this storm that I felt that God had just left me to my despair but that wasn’t true. It was just a lie that the enemy was trying to sell and I almost bought. If it wasn’t for some very strong Christian women in my life I would have pulled out my money and taken the lie to heart.

And if you don’t have a woman or man in your life right now then I will be it. Don’t you dare let Satan steal your joy and your peace! God loves you vey much and He is working this all out for your good! No matter what the storm is like outside, stay in the boat with Jesus and He will take you to the other side. Don’t lose hope and don’t forsake your God for the only other option is to drown. We can’t do anything on our own. We need Jesus and He is here for us.

Mark 4:37-40

37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”

These verses were my mindset perfectly. Are they your’s or do you have the faith to sail to the other side without fear? Maybe next time I will do better with my faith as I cross the sea with Jesus.

Steak Knives

Have you ever had this happen to you? You buy a pair of steak knives and they are awesome. They are sharp and cut through any type of meat, cheese, or veggie you want. Then time goes on and they are not as sharp as they once were but you really don’t notice that you are having to use more force to cut your meat and your cheese is now coming off in uneven cuts as they are having a hard time staying straight. Finally you get to the point where the knives don’t actually cut anything but you are so used to them that you just put up with it.

Can anyone relate? I know it is kind of a silly story but it is 100% true. My parents have had these not matching steak knives since I can remember. They are now pretty much just cool looking butter knives but they refused to get new ones since they were so used to the old ones. Well, my husband and I decided that if they weren’t going to get some then we would. So as a thank you for letting me and my daughter live with them for two months until we were able to move into our new house, we bought them a nice steak knife set. Guess what happened? They were amazed at how long they had put up with the old ones and finally saw how much better these were.

Ok, what’s my point? Why bring up something as silly as steak knives? Because I think that is how Christianity has become in our country. We once were sharp and ready to cut through anything that wasn’t God honoring but over time have gotten duller and duller to the waves of culture influence. It is now that the church is so dull as a whole that is only spreads butter and doesn’t make any impact in the world around us.

Now there are good things happening by the work of Christians but that is just a small handful. I know I am not making an impact to the those around me like I should. I have a new neighbor that is already driving me crazy but I haven’t even been over to introduce myself and I have been in my house for almost two weeks. How am I any different from the rest of the stagnant Christians out there? Yes I have a book out called Potholes of Hope and that is all about Jesus’ love and forgiveness for our ways but is it enough? I don’t think so. I need to actually get out and spread Jesus’ love to everyone.

Actually what is putting me to shame are the songs my two year old daughter is listening to like: Jesus Loves MeHe Has the Whole WorldThe Wise Man, and I’ve Got the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy Down in My Heart. Do I believe any of that? Do you?

Imagine what the world out be like if we did. We need to throw out our old steak knife Christianity and bring in a whole new set that is refreshed with the truth and word of Jesus Christ. Then we would see change in our world. Until then, good luck eating your steak.
