Empathy for Single Parents

Man all I can do is applaud single parents. The longest I have ever had to watch my daughter without my husband present was four days while he was at a work conference. But now I have beat my record. My husband and I have had to live in separate locations for three weeks now and I have to say it is really tough. I won’t go into why we haven’t been able to be in the same place but I will say it has to do with our rental. The why isn’t important it is the fact that I have been a single parent for three weeks that this post is about.

I always knew that being a single parent was hard but this little taste has given me a whole new admiration for them. How they raise their children without losing their minds, I will never know. I miss my husband so much on a daily basis because everything depends on me. I mean as a stay at home mom I am used to having most of the stuff fall on my shoulders but I always knew that my husband would be home at 5:00pm to help me out. I would be able to finish the day with my partner. Well these few weeks have really been stretching me. I still have dishes on the counter and it is 9:00pm and they will probably stay there until tomorrow. I am not Super Woman and I don’t like to pretend I am. But it makes me think how single parents do it. They seem like super heroes to me.

So if you are a single parent I really admire you. Keep up the good work and know that it will all be worth it in the end. I do have to say though that I will be glad when this season of my husband and I being a part is over. I miss him so much.

Happy April Fools!

I hope everyone has a great April Fools Day. I can’t wait to hear what stories my husband will come home with today. I just want to request that you keep the jokes harmless. Now don’t get me wrong. This whole PC thing that I have to do on a regular basis is a drag and I hate it but that isn’t what I am talking about.

Not every joke is funny or should be done. You have seen the posts about pregnancy pranks but that isn’t the only one. People everywhere are dealing with things that we may not even know about and we have to be sensitive to that. So one joke for one person may not be good for another person.

What I think of when I say this is when, in My Little Pony, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie are out pulling pranks on their friends. Everyone is having a great time with them but there was one pony that they wouldn’t prank and that was Fluttershy. They knew that Fluttershy took things too literally and was a sensitive soul. A prank would hurt her and she wouldn’t find it funny.

So have fun today but just keep that in mind. Not all of us like pranks and find them funny, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. Just do it where everyone can enjoy it 🙂

Oh the Irony in Life

I got an interesting letter in the mail today. I sort of freaked out because it was from Sutter Health and it looked like it was a bill. Here is the thing though, we paid off all of our bills two years ago to them right before my husband got his current benefits at his job. So I opened the letter and a second later started laughing my head off.

Let me give you a little back story. In December 2013 I came down with a nasty respiratory cold and it got so bad that I had to go to the ER. Mind you I was also five months pregnant with my daughter and had a fever that wasn’t coming down. So off to the ER we went and had the most horrific service I have ever had in the ER. WE were there for 7 hours and saw the Doctor for 10 minutes. They didn’t do an IV or anything. They simply called me crazy and sent me home. In the words of Michelle Tanner “How rude!”

After that we were slammed with a $1,000.00 bill from the ER room for no service and  and a $250 bill for 10 minutes with the Doctor who did absolutely nothing! Nothing! He got paid to tell me I was nuts. Any way, we wanted to protest the amount of the bill but with all the crap from Obama Care (thanks Obama), I didn’t want to get into a nasty medical case. So we were good stewards and paid the bill one $25 dollar payment at a time.

Why so low? Well…I had tried to settle with them on a lump sum but they wouldn’t take it. They wanted the full amount even if it meant that they got it $25 at a time. Once again, they were rude and uncaring. So we did just that for about eight months. Then we got enough to pay the full amount and did so just to get away from this system of terror.

Ok, now back to why I was laughing my head off. Turns out we over paid! Guess by how much?

That’s right, one penny! The stamp itself was $0.47. So they spent $0.48 in total. I would have honestly said keep the change but they have to by law send out any overpayment fees. So I did end up getting the last laugh. Needless to say, we are no longer with this group and now with a medical group who treated us like gold when my husband was recently there. You can read all about it HERE.

So if you are dealing with a medical fiasco, take heart. You just might get a check in the mail for $0.01 for two and half years ago and get the last laugh in the end.
